Update on Micah
Micah is currently at the University of Maryland where he is being pumped full of IV fluids and being monitored pretty closely. He was diagnosed last night with Pyloric Stenosis which is basically a condition where the muscle between the stomach and the small intestine is too tight and thickens to the point where food has trouble passing through, which is why he was projectile vomiting during every feeding. The treatment for this is a pretty simple surgery which he is expected to undergo sometime tomorrow morning once he is fully hydrated and his electolyte levels are brought back up to a stable place. Right now his potassium level is what we are waiting for to come up so that he will be stable enough to be anesthetized for the surgery. Recovery is actually pretty quick and they expect him to come home within 2 days after surgery. Some kids even come home the same day. They hope to do the surgery laproscopically, but may need to resort to a traditional incision. We would appreciate your continued prayers especially as a low potassium level can cause heart murmurs and he is hooked up to a heart monitor, which he does not particularly like. He is, however, doing drastically better than when we took him in last night and he no longer looks like a holocaust victim since he is mostly rehydrated. We will try to put up an update tomorrow after surgery, but it may be a day or two until we get a chance.
