I'm a little behind on this, but for those who didn't know, Micah had surgery last Thursday, July 31st for a clogged tear duct. His right eye has been goopy since he was about 2-3 months old, but they wanted to wait until he was a year old to do surgery on it. The doctor was hoping that massaging it would clear it out, but unfortunately that didn't work so Micah had to go through a probing and irrigation last Thursday. The surgery went really well. I got him there about 7:15am, he went back for surgery a little after 8am, they brought me back to recovery at about 8:25am and we were home by 9:15am. He was great before going back especially since he wasn't allowed to eat anything. He was waving at everybody he saw and playing with his giraffe. And right when he started to realize he was hungry and getting pretty antsy, they took him back. However, he was a completely different kid afterwards since he was VERY cranky waking up from the anesthesia which the nurses had prepared me for (apparently kids get very disoriented for awhile due to the gases from anesthesia and it can take awhile until it is gone), but once I got him home and he had some juice and then a nap, he was completely back to normal by noon. He had to be on a liquid diet for 4-6 hours, but he was doing so well by dinner time, we took the kids to Chick-fil-a which Micah thoroughly enjoyed after a day of soup broth, freeze pops, applesauce and watermelon. Now we just have to give him eye drops 3 times a day for 2 weeks and put this lotion stuff in his eye once a day for a week. The first several days of drops were pretty hard because he absolutely hated them and it is practically impossible to pry open his eye and get a drop in when he is squinting it shut as hard as he can, but now he seems to be pretty well used to it and he didn't even fuss tonight when I had to put it in. Now hopefully his eye will stay gunk-free and he won't have to worry about it anymore once we finish the eye drops.
