Fridge Phonics
So most people with little kids know what Fridge Phonics are, but for those of you who don't, it is this little square that sticks magnetically to the fridge and all of the letters of the alphabet can fit into it one at a time. When you put one of the letters in, it sings this little song that tells the sounds the letter makes. As an example, for the letter 'A' it says "'A' says 'A' (long 'a' as in bake) and 'A' says 'a' (short 'a' as in 'bat'), every letter makes a sound, 'A' says 'A' and 'a'." Gabriel has really liked playing with this recently although he has always played with it some off and on since we got it probably about a year ago. The other day he was playing with it and wanted me to come over with him. He then proceeded to take the letter 'G' off of the fridge and tell me it was a 'G' before he put it in the square to sing the song. Mike and I were pretty impressed with that, but then he continued to tell us about 5-6 more letters that he knew, which completely astounded us! I'm not exactly sure how many he knows, but it was very encouraging for me to hear the things that he is learning. Hopefully this will make learning to read a bit easier when the time comes - especially since he also already loves to 'read' books to himself!

A is for Anna...apparently those fridge phonics help some people pronounce my name with a British accent!
Hope you're doing better Emily... I'm thinking of you. Please let me know if I can help in any way.
Anna
